Childcentre Rivierenwijk, Deventer
The new, radiant Child Center in the heart of the Rivierenwijk in Deventer is part of the revitalization of this versatile green neighborhood. The Child Center is a multifunctional building where local residents can access services for the development and care of young children. It houses an elementary school with 15 classrooms, 2 playrooms, a gymnasium, and toddler and childcare facilities.
It is an inviting, light-filled building designed for interaction, sports, and play. Due to its unique location, resembling a pavilion in the park, it is easy to extend learning outside and stimulate all of the children's senses. The building's shape complements its location and function, resembling a butterfly in profile—friendly and accessible. It is welcoming and open towards the "child's path," a playful and safe route for children to walk to school independently.
The central hall is an exciting space with level differences and offers a good view of the classrooms in the wings. The tiered staircase encourages climbing and exploration, making the space versatile for various uses. The combination of functions and shared use ensures that the atmosphere around the Child Center is always lively, even outside school hours. The use of sustainable natural materials and the building's beautiful curves give it a warm, pleasant appearance. It is a place where learning, sports, and social interaction take place in a comfortable environment—a place that leaves a lasting impression.
