Meerhuizenplein, Amsterdam
Meerhuizenplein is located in the heart of the Amsterdam School neighborhood, known for its beautiful architecture. The challenge in this project was to design buildings that respect the existing environment, match the architectural quality of the Amsterdam School, and at the same time express modernity.
The buildings contain residences that meet all contemporary standards. Spacious and generously laid-out homes, large glass surfaces, and curved brickwork form the foundation of the design. Just as the façades of the Amsterdam School can be seen as a tension between brick and glass, these new façades also play with — and are shaped by — the interaction between solidity and transparency.
The floor plans are generous, characterized by wide living rooms with curved walls — capturing the spatial richness of the Amsterdam School, but interpreted in a sustainable and contemporary way.
