Noordpoort, Amstelveen

With the development of the Stadshart, Amstelveen gained a new city center featuring a large square, a prominent tower, and substantial urban blocks. The Rembrandtweg serves as the main approach from the north into the Stadshart, with retail buildings defining the character of the street. At the head of this route, Dok designed two office buildings that mark the entrance to the new center. These are two identical yet mirrored buildings, positioned with their taller sides facing one another.

Double-height spaces at the ends of the buildings provide a spatial accent to these otherwise straightforward rental offices. The facades are composed of solid brick piers, which support the steel lintels framing the window openings. Dark-colored glass louvers provide sun shading. Like robust gatekeepers, the buildings stand at the threshold of the new city center.t.
