Noordpoort, Amstelveen

Amstelveen has a new town centre with a large square, a sizeable tower and imposing street facades. Rembrandtweg is the road entering this new centre from the north. Its character is largely determined by small shops. The two office blocks at the termination of Rembrandtweg face one another like sturdy sentinels and mark the entrance to the new city centre. Mounted between their robust brickwork piers and steel lintels, they have glass louvres which serve as a solar barrier. The double-height spaces in the end façades give these simple office rental units a spatial accent.
