Railway bridges, Amsterdam
Dok Architecten was commissioned by the Municipality of Amsterdam to refresh the railway bridges in East Amsterdam. In the 1930s, Amsterdam constructed the railway embankment, eliminating level crossings and significantly improving traffic flow.
At the same time, the embankment serves as a barrier in the city. The underpasses are the connections between different parts of the city. With a series of small interventions, Dok made these underpasses safe and livable once more, while being mindful of the surrounding environment and showing a deep appreciation for this industrial heritage.
