Scheldeplein, Amsterdam
In 2012, Dok architects started designing the redevelopment plans for this former garage on Scheldeplein. The architecturally dilapidated building underwent a complete renovation that restored it to its original grandeur.
The renovated facade refers to the original condition in all respects, but with the use of contemporary materials; parts of the facade were restored and the characteristic window frames were replaced, the tower was raised with the replacement of the glass lantern as the final piece.
In addition, the project includes a retracted roof structure with 9 apartments.
The new floor has been realized in the same style and in harmony with the renovated facade, so that the new floor is not dominant in the facade. The terrace partitions are a visual facade element and enhance the rhythm of the facade. Due to the addition of the roof structure, the height of the building is in line with the surrounding buildings.
The apartments are accessible via the joint passage / inner street, which runs in the middle of the roof. Because of the silence, the staggered plastered walls and the corten steel planters, you do not realize that you are in the middle of the busy Scheldeplein.
