Sinfonia, Leidsche Rijn Centrum
Leidsche Rijn Centrum, Utrecht. An urban area with an un-Dutch allure, featuring elevation changes due to the covering of the A2 motorway. In collaboration with Marlies Rohmer Architects & Urbanists, we designed two carrés.
Sinfonia comprises 41 single-family homes and 9 apartments distributed across two closed building blocks. It is not a repetition with minimal differences but an urban composition of varying grain sizes, module dimensions, heights, and typologies. The semi-underground parking garage enables exciting single-family homes with split levels. These are positioned alongside spectacular corner homes and apartments in elevated parts of the development.
These are robustly composed ensembles that demonstrate unity in diversity. Rather than a Vinex-like sequence of houses, it follows a classic principle of single, double, and triple units. These substantial buildings create a natural coherence.
The façades are characterized by a high, sturdy base, often in natural stone, and rich brick detailing. Composition, articulation, rhythm, and tectonics play a crucial role. High entrance areas, projecting planters, playful bay windows, and undulating balconies enhance the visual appeal.
A colorful and cheerful addition to the new part of the city, Leidsche Rijn Centrum!
