Community Centre, Deventer

In the district Rivierenwijk in Deventer hard work has been done to upgrade the facilities of the neighborhood, next to the renovation of dwellings and the renewal of infrastructure and public space. An important part of this is the renovation of a 1970s building into a modern, resident-managed meeting place for all groups in the district.
The municipality of Deventer has donated an 1980s office to the residents and volunteers from the Rivierenwijk. The program of requirements was established through intensive collaboration with residents and users, in which everyone's wishes were respected. The community centre is an experiment that is also being followed closely nationally, because the residents themselves helped to realize this centre. The design of the building, both exterior and interior, expresses the objective of being a meeting place.

The facades of this 1980s office have been left intact, insulation stucco has been applied to them; solar panels are placed on the roof; by adding a large roof edge, the solar panels are kept out of sight and the insulation stucco is protected from contamination.
