Palazzo Porte, Utrecht

Is it possible to create something distinctive on a Vinex location? And how far does the architect's freedom extend when working with standard floor plans? With the optimistic Palazzo Porte, we demonstrate that there is much that can be achieved.

The attached city villas feature both a sheltered and an open side. On the street side, the architecture has a vertical character, with dark arches forming a gentle barrier between the city and the home. Along the green valley, the houses open up towards the nature playground situated six meters below. This side embodies the horizontality of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, creating a space where one feels free—whether relaxing in a rocking chair or enjoying coffee with neighbors.

Buyers were offered ample choices in both floor plans and finishing levels. Extensions could be made to the rear, on the floors, or upwards. The resulting variety of housing types and the constantly shifting building line give the project a playful and flexible character.

Palazzo Porte is a nod to Italian palaces, featuring a cheerful interplay between dark and light volumes; between private and public. Here, you have your own special place—a unique home.
