Berlijnplein, Leidsche rijn, Utrecht
This new restaurant on the Berlijnplein in Leidsche Rijn is a meeting place for the entire neighborhood. With its iconic shape, the building stands out among the surrounding architecture and has its own character. Due to its location on top of the A2 tunnel, lightweight building materials have been chosen, yet the building radiates warmth thanks to the use of brick and a steel truss structure.
The pavilion offers the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal or relax on the terrace under the sun. Cosiness, warmth, dining, and attention to detail, symmetry, and connection are central to this contemporary design. The pavilion will play a central role on the Berlijnplein, where residents and visitors can enjoy food, sun, and events.
The design of the pavilion takes into account the requirements of the visual quality plan. Symmetry and the connection between both sides of the center are important aspects. In addition, extra attention has been paid to the construction on top of the tunnel and the integration with the green surroundings. The building is richly detailed without a historical appearance. The roof acts as a fifth facade, creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. The pavilion is anchored in the context and forms a harmonious whole with its surroundings.
